FAQs

ProJoint™ Fusion

  1. How long does Fusion take to cure?
Fusion typically cures enough for foot traffic in about 24 hours. Curing times can vary depending on the weather.   Colder and wetter conditions can delay the curing speed significantly.
  2. What is the best way to maintain my joints?
Keeping your paving joints clean is simple! Sweep the area regularly to remove dirt, leaves, and debris. This helps stop weeds from taking root. For a deeper clean to remove algae and dirt, our ProJoint Black Spot and Algae Remover blasts through it.
  3. Can it be used on porcelain tiles?
Fusion isn’t recommended for porcelain tiles because they need a specialist jointing compound due to the density of porcelain tiles.  We would recommend ProJoint RapidFlow – The application is the same, but RapidFlow cures harder and bonds better to porcelain tiles.
  4. What weather conditions can I apply Fusion in?
Fusion can handle light rain, so no need to panic if the skies turn grey. However, avoid applying it during heavy rain or freezing temperatures as it won’t set properly.
  5. Can I open the tub and re-use it on a later date?
Once opened, the air will start the curing process.  To stop this, you put excess material back in the tub and submerge it in water, this will cut out the oxygen giving you up to a month extra of usage.
  6. Where is Fusion used?
Fusion is perfect for natural stone and concrete patios, paths, and other areas with foot traffic only.
  7. Is Fusion permeable?
Yes, the primary benefit of permeable resin jointing compounds is their ability to let water pass through, reducing surface water and preventing pooling.
  8. Why should the bedding mortar be permeable?
Fusion cured when it dries out, because of this, water/rain must have a route of escape.  Furthermore, a permeable sub-base allows water collecting in the joints to drain freely, stopping it from building up within the joints and become stagnant - this stagnant water overtime can soften the binder and encourage algae growth.
  9. When you say permeable bedding mix, what does this mean?
A 5:1 ratio of sand and cement or above is classed as permeable.  Or using a specific permeable bedding mortar is also acceptable.
  10. Can you pressure wash Fusion?
Yes, but only after it’s fully cured (approx. 30 days) Use a fan nozzle and keep the pressure washer at a safe distance.
  11. What’s the difference between Fusion resin and epoxy?
Fusion is a resin-based compound that cures with air exposure, making it user-friendly and perfect for DIYers. Epoxy compounds are chemically cured, offering extra strength for heavy-duty jobs but needing a more careful application and the correct weather conditions.

RapidFlow is an air-cure binder, while epoxy compounds like ProJoint TITAN/V400 offer higher durability and strength with a different application method.

ProJoint™ TITAN

  1. Why can’t you use Titan on porcelain?
Titan isn’t suitable for porcelain tiles because of the resin sheen it leaves.  On natural stone, this looks great as it enhances the colours of the stones, bringing them to life.  On porcelain, this resin sheen can often leave uneven and patchy, due to the density and the impermeable nature of porcelain.  We would suggest using the ProJoint RapidFlow instead.
  2. What is the resin layer after applying Titan?
Due to the high epoxy resin content, ProJoint Titan will darken and enhance the natural surface colours and textures of the paving. This resin film can be especially noticeable on grey paving, including granite, so a test area is advised before use. It is important to spread the mix across the total paving area to ensure the potential effect is uniform. Please note that this is a temporary effect and weathering, and foot traffic accelerate its disappearance.
  3. How long does the resin layer stay on the paving?
It can take between 1 week to 6 months.  On average it would normally take around 2-3 months to fade fully.
  4. How can I stop the resin sheen from forming?
    ProJoint Pre-Grout Sealant:
It is recommended to use ProJoint Pre-Grout sealant before jointing. This sealer provides a barrier on the stone, preventing the epoxy from adhering to the surface. Using this in conjunction with a wet medium-soft brush at a 45-degree angle to the joints while jointing will eliminate any resin sheen after
    Weather:
It is crucial to adhere to the tub's recommended surface temperature range of 3°C to 25°C. If the stone surface is too warm, particularly on darker slabs, the curing speed of the epoxy will increase and will create a challenge in keeping the pavers adequately wet. It is worth noting, if the air temperature is 20°C, the surface temp could be up to 40°C.
Preparation and Application: Ensure the paving is adequately prepared and soaked with water before brushing or squeegeeing over the surface. Use a wet medium-soft brush at a 45-degree angle to the joints to remove excess sand. Note that any sand left on the surface will not be easily removed once the product has cured.
  5. How long does Titan take to cure?
Cure times are dependent on temperature and humidity, but as a guide ProJoint Titan can accept foot traffic after 12 hours and light vehicle traffic after 24 hours at 20°C. Please note that cold temperatures and moisture will extend the cure and therefore protection time required. On the initial cure, the joints will feel semi-hard and will continue to cure over the coming days.  Do not panic if the joints are not touch hard within a few days, they will continue to cure. 10l
  1. Is Titan permeable?
Yes, Titan is permeable, allowing water to drain through the joints and helping to prevent puddles or water buildup on your paving.
  2. Can you pressure wash Titan?
Yes! Once fully cured, Titan can be pressure washed. Use a fan nozzle and keep the pressure washer at a safe distance to avoid damaging the joints.
  3. Why should I use Titan over air-cure jointing compounds?
Titan is a chemically cured product, making it stronger and more durable than air-cured compounds. It’s perfect for heavy-duty areas like driveways or commercial spaces, where extra strength is essential.
  4. Once mixed, can I store it for future use?
No, Titan must be used immediately after mixing. Be sure to only mix what you need for your project.
  5. The surface of my paving is tacky after application, why is this?
This usually happens when excess product isn’t cleaned away during application. Use a damp sponge or clean cloth to remove any leftover resin as you go.
  6. What temperature should I apply Titan?
For the best results, apply Titan when the temperature is above 5°C. Avoid very cold or frosty conditions, as they can affect curing.

  5. Do I have to use a whacker plate during install?
Using a whacker plate is recommended for the best results, as it helps compact the joints and ensures a strong bond.
  6. I don’t have a leaf blower, can I go without one?
A leaf blower is helpful for removing excess product from the paving surface, but it’s not essential. A soft brush can also do the trick, but take care not to dislodge the jointing material.
  7. How long can it not be rained on, after application?
PolySweep needs to stay dry for at least 24 hours after application. If rain is forecast, it’s best to cover the area with a tarpaulin to protect it.
